Glasgow at a glance
Glasgow Airport is Scotland's main holiday airport. Jet2 and easyJet both have bases there and run most of the leisure flights, TUI flies holiday routes including long-haul, Emirates flies to Dubai, and KLM connects through Amsterdam.
Routes and timetables change every season. We checked this list in October 2026, but always check the airline's current schedule before planning around a flight.
Winter sun with Jet2
Jet2's winter 2026/27 programme from Glasgow covers 14 sunny destinations:
Jet2 has also added Hurghada in Egypt from Glasgow for winter, for guaranteed Red Sea sunshine. The Canaries take around four and a half hours from Scotland. Our November and January pages compare winter temperatures.
Snow, skiing and the northern lights
- Tromsø: Norwegian starts flying from Glasgow on 11 December 2026, twice a week through the winter. It's one of the best places in Europe to see the northern lights, and a much easier trip from Scotland without changing planes.
- Geneva: Jet2 flies weekly on Saturdays from 12 December 2026 for its ski programme, which reaches Chamonix, Verbier and the big French resorts. Our guide to the best ski resorts for a weekend covers the ones closest to the airport.
If you're weighing up the Arctic options, see our comparison of Tromsø or Rovaniemi.
City breaks and Christmas markets
EasyJet runs most of Glasgow's city routes. New for this winter is Kraków, from 13 November 2026, on Mondays and Fridays, just in time for its Christmas market.
Other city choices from Glasgow include Amsterdam with KLM and easyJet, plus Spanish and Portuguese cities with easyJet and Jet2. If you want a city break with a Christmas market, our pick of the best Christmas markets in Europe helps you choose, and Vienna or Prague compares two of the most popular.
Long-haul from Glasgow
Glasgow has a small but useful long-haul list:
- Dubai: Emirates flies year-round, around 7 hours, with connections across Asia, Africa and Australia.
- Cancún: TUI's longest route from Glasgow, at nearly 10 hours, for Caribbean beaches in Mexico.
- North America in summer: in summer 2026, United flew daily to Newark for New York, from May to September, and WestJet returned with four flights a week to Toronto. Check whether they're running again for summer 2027 before you plan.
For more transatlantic choice, Edinburgh has a bigger list. Our guide to where you can fly direct from Edinburgh covers it.
Summer holidays
In summer, the Jet2, easyJet and TUI networks grow to cover most of the Mediterranean: Spain and the Balearics, Portugal, Greece and its islands, Turkey, Cyprus, Croatia and more. Jet2 has added weekly flights to Kos for summer 2026.
For Greek islands without direct flights from Scotland, fly to a bigger island and take a ferry. Our guide to alternatives to Santorini has ideas.
Getting to Glasgow Airport
The airport is about 8 miles west of the city centre, near Paisley:
- Bus: the Glasgow Airport Express runs from the city centre in around 25 minutes, around the clock, which helps for early flights.
- Train: there's no rail link to the terminal. The nearest station is Paisley Gilmour Street, a short bus or taxi ride away.
- Car: the airport is just off the M8. There's a charge to use the drop-off zone, so check current prices before you go.
