Where can you fly direct from Newcastle Airport?

Newcastle has more direct flights than ever this winter, after easyJet opened a base there in March 2026 and added routes to Lapland, Iceland and Copenhagen. Here's where you can fly, sorted by the kind of trip you want.

Newcastle at a glance

Newcastle International is the main airport for the North East. Jet2 has the biggest holiday network, easyJet has grown fast since opening a base in March 2026, and Ryanair has three aircraft based there. For long-haul, Emirates flies to Dubai, and KLM flies to Amsterdam, which connects to hundreds of destinations worldwide.

Routes and schedules change every season. We checked this list in October 2026, but always check the airline's current timetable before planning around a flight.

New this winter with easyJet

EasyJet now sells around 31 routes from Newcastle. The new ones for winter 2026/27 are mostly twice a week:

  • Barcelona: from 25 October, Fridays and Sundays, ideal for a long weekend.
  • Fuerteventura: from 25 October, Thursdays and Sundays.
  • Kraków: from 26 October, Mondays and Fridays.
  • Reykjavik: from 27 October, Tuesdays and Saturdays, for northern lights trips.
  • Hurghada, Egypt: from 27 October, for Red Sea sun in winter.
  • Copenhagen: from 5 November, Thursdays and Sundays.
  • Berlin: from 20 November, Mondays and Fridays.
  • Rovaniemi: from 25 November, Wednesdays and Sundays, the first easy way to reach Lapland directly from the North East.

These join easyJet routes from its base launch, including Lisbon, Nice and Rome.

Winter sun with Jet2

Jet2 runs the biggest winter sun programme from Newcastle. For winter 2026/27 it includes:

The Canaries take around four and a half hours from Newcastle. If you're unsure which island suits you, our November and January pages compare winter temperatures.

Skiing and the Alps

Jet2 flies from Newcastle to three Alpine airports for winter 2026/27, from mid-December:

  • Geneva, for Chamonix and resorts in France and Switzerland, up to twice a week.
  • Chambéry, weekly on Saturdays, for the big French resorts.
  • Grenoble, for the French Alps.

Many of these work best as part of a Jet2holidays package with transfers, but flight-only seats are often sold too.

City breaks

Between easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2, there's a good choice of short city breaks:

  • Ryanair has around 22 routes, including Dublin, Kraków, Budapest, Milan, Barcelona, Brussels Charleroi and Malta, some of them seasonal.
  • EasyJet's new winter routes add Copenhagen and Berlin, both with Christmas markets in December.
  • KLM flies to Amsterdam several times a day, which is a city break in itself or a quick connection onward.

Long-haul from Newcastle

Emirates flies year-round from Newcastle to Dubai, which takes around 7 hours. Dubai is at its best between November and March, and the Emirates network connects onward to the Maldives, Mauritius, Thailand, Australia and more.

For North America, the usual options are connecting through Amsterdam with KLM, through Dublin (where you clear US immigration before you fly), or travelling to Manchester or Edinburgh for direct transatlantic flights.

Getting to Newcastle Airport

The airport is about 7 miles north-west of the city centre, and it's one of the few UK airports with its own metro station:

  • Tyne and Wear Metro: the green line runs from the terminal to Newcastle city centre in around 25 minutes, and on to Gateshead, Sunderland and the coast. Check first and last times if your flight is very early, as the Metro doesn't run through the night.
  • Car: the airport is just off the A696, close to the A1. There's a charge for the drop-off area outside the terminal, so check current prices before you go.
  • Taxi: there's a rank outside arrivals.

Choosing where to go

With this much choice, start with the season and what you want from the trip: sun, snow, a city or something in between. Our Christmas holidays page covers markets, Lapland and Christmas sun, and the city breaks page has more short-trip ideas.
