Temperatures are the average daytime high in °C.

Most cruise ships based in Barbados sail from November to April, the dry season, with sunny days, cooling trade winds and temperatures around 29 to 30°C. Christmas, New Year and February half-term are the busiest and priciest times. From May many ships move to Europe or Alaska, so there are far fewer sailings from Barbados in summer. June to November is hurricane season, with the highest risk from August to October, when storms can change your ports or route.

Caribbean cruises: common questions

Is a Caribbean cruise good for a family holiday?

Yes. Big ships have kids' clubs, water slides and family cabins, and there's a beach at almost every stop. School holidays are the busiest and priciest times to sail.

How long is the cruise?

Most Southern Caribbean cruises from Barbados are 7 nights, visiting five or six islands such as St Lucia, Antigua, Grenada and Dominica. Fourteen-night trips combine two different routes or go further south to Aruba and Curaçao.

How do you get there?

Fly into Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados, which has direct flights from the UK, the US and Canada. The cruise terminal at Bridgetown's Deep Water Harbour is about 30 minutes by taxi. Many fly-cruise packages include the transfer.

Are there small-ship options?

Yes. Tall ships and small luxury yachts also sail from Barbados in winter, carrying from about 100 to a few hundred passengers. They can call at smaller islands such as Bequia and the Tobago Cays that big ships can't reach.
